Circle of Peace

Circle of Peace
With the 5th Anniversary of the Iraq invasion in March and the 4,000th death of a U.S. soldier soon to arrive — as well as many hundreds of thousands of Iraqis — the peace community of El Paso and southern New Mexico will come together for a solemn but also energizing “Circle of Peace.” As we move toward a new presidency, it is urgent that we maintain meaningful and effective pressure for a rapid exit from the Iraq War on whoever is elected — policy promises are important but our pressure is crucial to realizing them.
The Circle of Peace will have speakers, music, dance, poetry, reading of names of the fallen, dedicated moments of silence, and opportunities for people to volunteer names of their loved ones who are in harm’s way. We will pay particular attention to the impact of the war on the borderlands, and the connection between peace and social justice. The event is warm and welcoming, building on and building toward a peace community in this region.
