Lawyer for Lomas del Poleo Residents Assassinated

Dear Friends,

I have some very sad, tragic news to report. This evening I received a
call from Tomas Ontiveros, owner of the Ferreteria where the Lomas
residents have been holding their meetings for the last few years. He
told me that Lic. Carlos Avitia, the lawyer who was representing most of
the residents of Lomas del Poleo, was gunned down today in Chihuahua at
115 p.m. There were no details as to who the assassins may have been or
why he was murdered.

I spoke with Lic. Avitia’s wife, Sonia, who was preparing to go to
Chihuahua with her brother to recover the body.

Lic. Avitia leaves behind, in addition to his wife, four young boys
ranging in age from about 13 years old to 3 years old.
