Urgent Request for Help From Residents of Lomas del Poleo
October 9, 2008
I received an urgent request for assistance to the besieged Ciudad Juárez community of Lomas del Poleo:
Another home has been demolished! Residents of Lomas del Poleo, Cuidad Juárez, fighting to keep their land from being seized for a bi-national development plan, are in danger. Already surrounded with a gate and barbed wire fence, acts of intimidation by hired guards are increasing. Residents now struggle to get water, a most basic human right, into their homes. Many have fled out of fear, but others remain to defend their rights to their land.
Come learn more about this issue, and how you can help! Please join us for the closing reception of the photo exhibit documenting this gross violation of human rights. The reception is Friday, October 17, from 6-8 pm at the Nason House, located on University Avenue across from Kinko’s. At the request of residents, we are collecting the following items, which can be brought to the closing reception or left at the Nason House.
Water (gallon jugs) – Batteries – Flashlights
Walkie-talkie radios — Kerosene lamps – Whistles
