Democrats Sweeping in New Mexico

November 5, 2008

It has been a huge night for Democrats in New Mexico. At a few minutes before midnight it is looking like a clean sweep for the U.S. races:

President/VP: Barack Obama/Joe Biden leading McCain-Palin  55-44%
Senator: Tom Udall over Steve Pearce 60-40%
CD1: Ben Lujan
CD2: Martin Heinrich
CD3: Harry Teague

In southern New Mexico, with partial results:

Democrat incumbent Mary Jane Garcia has a comfortable leader over Republican Lee Cotter in State Senate Dist. 36.

Democrat Steve Fischmann holds a razor-thin lead over Republican incumbent Lee Rawson in State Senate Dist. 37.

Democrat incumbent Jeff Steinborn has a big lead over Republican Kent Evans in House Dist. 37, and Democrat incumbentNate Cote leads Republican Stanford Locke in House Dist. 53.

There is a very easily navigable election site on KOAT-TV’s web site:
