We got Bushed

Now there are two positive aspects to the George W. Bush presidential legacy.
First and foremost, of course, is the fact that, as the worst president in our nation’s history, he created the political climate in which we could elect an African-American to the White House. The bonus is that this particular African-American is ideally suited to be this country’s leader in facing a perilous future and repairing a disastrous past.
But now, thanks to the blogger Glenn Greenwald, we have a second positive. He wrote:
“The international community now has a potent new motivating tool to dissuade world leaders from engaging in tyranny and aggression — tell them they’ll be like George Bush if they do it.
“Nicolas Sarkozy saved the President of Georgia from being hanged „by the balls‰ ˜ a threat made last summer by Vladimir Putin, according to an account that emerged yesterday from the Élysée Palace. . . .
“The Russian seemed unconcerned by international reaction. ‘I am going to hang Saakashvili by the balls,’ Mr Putin declared.
“Mr Sarkozy thought he had misheard. „Hang him? ‰ ˜ he asked.
„Why not? ‰ Mr Putin replied. „The Americans hanged Saddam Hussein. ‰
“Mr Sarkozy, using the familiar tu, tried to reason with him: „Yes but do you want to end up like [President] Bush? ‰
“Mr Putin was briefly lost for words, then said: ‘Ah — you have scored a point there’. ‰
I think we’re witnessing the birth of a neologism. Perhaps it will emerge as a verb, “to Bush.”
Its definition would be “to bully, torture, kill or maim while declaring oneself above the law.”
I suppose the adjectival form would be Bushian, as in, “Lower Slobbovia’s new strongman is a Bushian dictator named. . . .”
Sports figures could use the new term. Say, a team scores the winning touchdown while it has 12 men on the field. The officials ignore the infraction and allow the score to stand. In the post-game interview, the losing could could declare, “We got Bushed.”
The possibilities are limitless.
For example, in Wasilla, Alaska, where rape victims have to pay for the kits that are used to collect evidence of the crime, victims could perhaps avoid having to pay if they simply reported, “I was Bushed.”
Think about it.
