Comedy ‘Horror In The Wind’ Screens At PFLAG Benefit

January 8, 2009

January 8, 2009, Alamogordo, NM – Hit Sci fi comedy “Horror In The Wind“ will be shown at a benefit for the Las Cruces chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (“PFLAG”) on January 24th at 10pm.  All proceeds from the screening will benefit the Emily Cohen Endowment for the Las Cruces chapter.  PFLAG is an international organization that promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and their friends.  This benefit is sponsored by Mesilla Valley Film Society at the Fountain Theatre, along with Revision Studios, producer of “Horror In The Wind” and Las Cruces PFLAG.
Emily Cohen, along with her daughter Sue Brown, were the original co-founders of the Las Cruces chapter over 12 years ago.  Her granddaughter, Marieka, came out as a lesbian in the early 1990′s.  Cohen has participated in numerous local and state Gay Pride marches, panels, outreach events and the historic March on Washington in the mid 1990′s.  Now, in her early 90′s, Cohen serves as a board member emeritus, providing her home for monthly meetings.  She will be at the special fundraiser on the 24th with two of her daughters, including Sue Brown, and her granddaughter Marieka.
Patrick Ivers, Film Critic at the Laramie Movie Scope calls Horror In The Wind, “Frightfully funny” and Jeff Berg, Local IQ Film Critic, says, “Debauchery! Hedonism! Blasphemy! Naked New Mexicans! You will find it all in one very entertaining and ultra low budget New Mexican film.”
Made for under $53,000, sci fi comedy “Horror In The Wind, was recently banned by Allen Theaters of New Mexico.  NBC nightly news reported that Allen Theaters refused to screen the locally produced comedy because it is too political.  “Horror In The Wind” is about two bio-geneticists whose Formula 4708 reverses the whole world’s sexual orientation.
“Horror In The Wind” is set in 2017 when Pat Robertson and James Dobson win the White House with a campaign theme of the “War on Sex.” Robertson spreads an untested sex suppression formula throughout the world. To everyone’s shock, Formula 4708 does not suppress sex drive but changes it. Within a week the world is 90% gay. Eventually the constitution is amended to ban heterosexual marriage.
“Horror In The Wind” screens at the Fountain Theatre in Mesilla on January 24 at 10pm after Religulous. Tickets are available at The Bean, Spirit Winds and The Fountain Theatre for $10 which includes live music by Nicole Martinez, door prizes and desserts.  Rising star, Perren Hedderson (“Hero Tomorrow”) leads the cast of 50 New Mexico actors.
