Congressional Perk: Wasteful Spending

July 1, 2009

Congress needs more scrutiny. The Wall Street Journal reported that Congress and federal agencies are expected to pay $60,000,000 to pay government employees’ college loans. This is an insult to the American people who are struggling during this recession.  There are so many former students including my daughter who are working hard to pay back their student loans.

We need to end the practice immediately. I don’t know of any private business that pays an employee’s student loan. Senators Bingaman and Udall and Representative Harry Teague should lead the fight against this Congressional perk. Let’s save some money and stop this wasteful spending!
