Mexican Wolf Art and Essay Contests Ends Soon
A friendly reminder that entries in this year’s art and essay contests for middle school students are due next Friday, November 6.  This is a great opportunity to engage children with the Mexican wolf (lobo) and have a chance to win an iPod Touch!  Be sure to tell all your daughters, grandsons, nephews, and second cousins twice removed – we want to make sure that every middle school aged student in southwestern New Mexico has heard about the contests.  Don’t forget to tell any teachers that you know so that they can tell their students.  If you have any questions get in touch with Paul@wildmesquite.org or call 575-522-5552

Join us at the Lobo Awards Ceremony
Join us here at the Southwest Environmental Center on Saturday, Nov. 21, on the downtown mall of Las Cruces as we announce the winners in the middle school contests. See all of the artwork, read some of the essays, participate in a wolf howl contest, see a great short film on wolves, and support all of the hard work that New Mexican students put into their entries. Ceremony starts at 1 pm. Doors open at 10 am for karaoke on the mall and a live broadcast on Magic 105 FM. Think you can howl? Think you can sing? Come on down and give it a shot-you might win tickets to Kelly Clarkson’s December 3rd concert (thanks to Magic 105) and other fabulous prizes. Contact Paul@wildmesquite.org or call 575-522-5552 for more information.

Study shows wolves are good for trout
It’s true! Turns out wolves are also good for aspens, songbirds, and general forest health. See this article <http://www.missoulian.com/lifestyles/territory/article_3ec9fc54-c01f-11de-bf16-001cc4c002e0.html>  for more details.

Want to work for the environment?
The Southwest Environmental Center is currently looking for door-to-door canvassers to educate the public about conservation issues and fundraise to support our campaigns.  If you have strong communication skills and a commitment to social change, please contact Jason at (575) 915-2766.  The average weekly pay for part-time work is $150-$300.

Final Back by Noon outing- Nov. 7
Lace up your hiking boots and join wildlife biologist and habitat specialist Pat Mathis as he takes us on a trek to discover Soledad Canyon and the effects of wildland fire on habitat.  This outing is rated moderate.  We will meet at the Southwest Environmental Center at 8am on Saturday, November 7th and carpool out to the site from here.  Please contact Lauren at (575) 522-5552 or lauren@wildmesquite.org <mailto:lauren@wildmesquite.org> to sign-up for the outing.
