Governor Richardson to recognize winners in Mexican Wolf student contests—Saturday, Nov. 21
Please join us as we welcome New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson in celebrating the winners in the Southwest Environmental Center’s Mexican Wolf art and essay contests for middle school students. The event will be held at the Rio Grande Theater in downtown Las Cruces on Saturday, November 21, 1-2 pm. Doors open at 12:30. More than 400 students from throughout southwest New Mexico entered the contests. Prizes will be awarded for first place, second, and honorable mention, and will include an iPod Touch, a signed Robert Bateman print <http://www.millpond.com/site/viewprint.cfm?ID=324&offset=1> (out of print), signed copies of Barry Lopez’ Of Wolves and Men, a wolf country trip with Steel Horse Tours <http://www.steelhorse.biz/> , and more. All students who entered the contests will also be eligible to win a variety of prizes in a random drawing. The event will also feature a short film about wolves and a howling contest (open to anybody–$50 cash prize). A reception will follow at the Southwest Environmental Center from 2-3 pm. The event is free and open to the public—we hope you’ll join us. Co-sponsored by the Las Cruces Museum of Natural History.
Everyone is also invited to stop by the Southwest Environmental Center for a few special activities prior to the Awards Ceremony starting at 11 am, including a sneak preview of student artwork in the Cottonwood Gallery, an under-21 karaoke contest at the Farmers’ Market in front of the Center (sponsored by Magic 105 FM–the winner will receive tickets to the Kelly Clarkson contest at the Pan Am Center on December 3), a live remote radio broadcast, and wolf howling practice. For more information, contact Paul at (575) 522-5552 or paul@wildmesquite.org.
We need volunteers to help before, during and after the awards ceremony with set-up, refreshments, logistics, and clean-up. If interested, please contact Paul.
