Office of Peace bill not on 2010 agenda

February 4, 2010

Status of NM Office of Peace legislation: The legislation did not receive a message from the governor, thus it is not considered germane for the 2010 legislative session. Wednesday, February 3, was the last day to introduce bills.  We will introduce the Office of Peace bill in the 60 day 2011 session. During 2010 DPI will work to strengthen support for the bill with New Mexicans, legislators and our new governor. If we receive some funding later this spring we will officially begin the work of the office. Maria Santelli has agreed to be the Director. While working to create the office we are the office on a small scale promoting dialogue and restorative justice statewide as a remedy for profiling by law enforcement.  DPI participates in the Family Justice Campaign.  We support each other’s legislation. We will email alerts when we need your active support with phone calls, letters and your presence and voice at hearings.  Thank you for your continued support. LET’S GO ALL OUT AND PASS IT IN THE 2011 SESSION!
