International Peace Day set for Sept. 21

September 1, 2010

‘International Day of Peace’ was established by The United Nations in 1981.  Since 2001 it has been observed on September 21st.

The Las Cruces and Mesilla Valley community has joined the celebration since 2008, growing each year and continuing this year on Sunday, September 19, with another magnificent ‘Musical Celebration for Peace’, at First Presbyterian Church, 200 E. Boutz.
Preceding the Musical Celebration, from 6:00  to 7:00 pm,  will be 3 open round table discussions:  “What is Peace?” — Harvey Daiho Hilbert, facilitator;  “Global Peace” — Beatriz Ferreria, facilitator; and “Family Peace”  — Father Jim Lehman, facilitator.
The musical celebration begins at 7:30 pm with special performances by Chris Sanders and Steve Smith, World Peace Choir, New World Drummers, John de la Paz – clarinet, and Sacred Dance.  Nancy Ritchey is Choir Director and program coordinator.

We invite our community to join with the world in affirming the possibility and the goal of world peace.
