Buy Local Bowl
December 6, 2011
Saturday, December 10th ▪ 11AM-1PM▪ Farmer’s Market Stage, Main St.
LAS CRUCES – In the spotlight: Local business, and local celebrities. This Saturday, it all comes to a head as local leaders battle it out to win the Mesilla Valley’s first ever “Think Local First” shopping competition co-hosted by the Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce and the Las Cruces Farmer’s and Crafts Market.
Local leaders, including Mayor Miyagishima, NMSU’s Paul Couture, Councilor Silva, Bank 34 President Jeff Silva, Humane Society’s Kathy Lawitz, Helping Hands owner Dawn Starowska, Santiago Soto, and many more will be split into two teams. Each team will have two hours to do their holiday shopping at independent, locally owned merchants throughout Las Cruces and Mesilla. At the end of the two hours, all contestants will turn in their receipts, and the team that has spent the most money in the Mesilla Valley wins!
Even better, everyone can join in on the fun and show their support for local business! Between 11:00AM and 1:00PM, Eventful owner and “Buy Local Bowl” emcee, Carina Vargas, will be handing out prizes to anyone who wants to be involved in the “Buy Local” fun! Prize categories will be announced at 11:30AM, and the first folks to return with locally bought gift items from those categories will win. (Example; if a gift category was “Something for your mother” and you return with a locally bought gift for your mom before anyone else – you win the prize!).
At 1:00PM, all celebrity shoppers must be back with their receipts. We will also take photos of the celebrity shoppers at 1:15PM with all their locally bought gifts in hand!
