Support Your Right to Know

January 18, 2013

If you’re like me, you rely on labels to tell you what’s in the food you buy at the grocery store. Problem is, those labels are missing a key piece of information — is it genetically engineered?

We have a chance to fix that in New Mexico. A bill that would require labeling of genetically engineered foods is being considered by the state senate next week. Tell your state senator to support Senate Bill 18 to require labels on genetically engineered foods!

Genetically engineered foods are untested and not proven safe for human consumption. Just as we all have the right to know how much fat, calories, sugar and protein is in the food we eat, we also have the right to know if our food has been genetically engineered. If you think you have the right to choose whether or not you consume GE food, please contact your lawmaker today.

We already know that the opposition is gearing up for a big fight in New Mexico — giant agribusinesses like Monsanto that put millions of dollars into opposing California’s Proposition 37 are paying attention. But, we have something that they don’t: the support of thousands of New Mexicans who want to know what’s in their food. Take action to make GE labeling the law today and demand that our elected leaders side with us, not Monsanto.
