     RESULTS Outreach Meeting beginning with a potluck beginning at 1:15pm.  Beth Wilson, RESULTS Board member and volunteer, will share her experience of a spring RESULTS visit to Zambia.  RSVP with Rich and Reba Renner, 575-642-2598 or rjrenner50@gmail.com, to get directions to the meeting location.

 

     Dona Ana County Commission invites you for a panel of New Mexico legislators and election experts offering ideas to improve New Mexico elections.  Moderated by Ashley Beyer and Abraham Sanchez of New Mexico Open Primaries featuring:  Jeff Steinborn, NM State Senator, District 36; Angelica Rubio, NM State Representative, District 35; Scott Krahling, Dona Ana County Clerk; and Bob Perls, Founder & President New Mexico Open Primaries.  2:30-5:30pm at the County Government Center, 845 N Motel Blvd.  Only about 19% of eligible voters vote in City elections, 9% in other local elections (School Board, Soil and Water, etc), and 63% in national elections.  We need to increase voter registration and turnout.

     Interfaith Prayer Vigil to stand with the DREAMers.  Bishop Cantu’ together with clergy from other faiths will gather with DREAMers and their families to pray for and with them as they face an uncertain future.  The vigil will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 224 Lincoln St., Anthony, NM at 6:00pm.  An information session on DACA update immediately following the vigil.

     Defend Our Dreamers Rally at the start of the Domenici Public Policy Conference at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 E. University.  The pro-DACA demonstration will begin at 8:30am.  Bring signs.

     Free Information Session on DACA provided by Catholic Charities of Southern New Mexico at 6:00pm.  The session will be held at Finley Hall at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1240 S Espina St, is free, and is for all DACA recipients, supporters, friends and the general public.  Please spread the word.

     Wild & Scenic Film Festival will be held at the Rio Grande Theater with several short films, speakers and giveaways starting at 7:00pm.  This event is hosted by Friends of the Organ Mountains, 575-323-1423.  Tickets are $10.

     Community Event organized by the Dona Ana County Election Advisory Council beginning at 9:00am at the Dona Ana County Government Center, 845 N Motel Blvd.  This event is focused on engaging County residents about voter and civic participation.  Kids activities, food trucks, and keynote speakers Maggie Toulouse Oliver, NM Secretary of State, and Scott Krahling, Dona Ana County Clerk.

     Casa de Peregrinos Open House from 11:00-6:00pm at the food pantry, 999 W. Amador, to allow the public to see all the good work the organization is doing in Las Cruces and Dona Ana County.  September is Hunger Action Month, and the C de P family invites you to the 2017 Open Warehouse.  See the work done by volunteers and staff to feed thousands of hungry families each year.  Stop by for brunch, lunch, afternoon snack or after hours happy hour.  There will be delicious finger foods and beverages brought to you by Luchador Catering along with incredibly powerful information that will equip you with better tools to address the hunger epidemic happening in our area.

     Social Justice Film Series at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 2000 S Solano, continues with the film “McFarland USA” at 7:00pm.  Based on a real story, this movie exemplifies personal potential regardless of one’s background.  Track coach Jim White (Kevin Costner) is a newcomer to a predominately Latino high school in California’s Central Valley.  Coach White and his students find that they have much to learn about one another.  More than just physical prowess drives the teens to succeed; their strong family ties, incredible work ethic, and commitment to their team all play a factor in forging these novice runners into champions.
