     A Photo Exhibit by Sister Margaret (Maggie) Sierra, Maryknoll Sister, of her Missionary Travels, Centro Santa Catalina, A Women’s Co-op in Juarez, Mexico.  All photo donations will go to the Co-op and Tutorial programs.  Nopalito’s Galleria, 310 S. Mesquite St.

     Candidate Forum of Democratic candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, Public Regulatory Commissioner, and NM Representative, District 34.  Forum will be from 6:00 to 9:00pm at the Rio Grande Theater, 211 N. Downtown Mall.

     School Safety Meeting will be held at Onate High School starting at 6:00pm.  All schools are gun-free zones.  This is a joint meeting of the Las Cruces School Board and the City Council.

 

Candidate Forum of Democratic candidates for U.S. Representative District 2, State Auditor, State Land Commissioner, NM Representative, Dist. 33, NM Representative, Dist. 52, and NM Representative, Dist. 53.  Forum will be from 6:00 to 9:00pm at the Rio Grande Theater, 211 N. Downtown Mall.

     World Press Freedom Day.  Please remember Mexican journalist, Emilio Gutierrez Soto, who is being held in detention in El Paso pending his appeal of a negative hearing on his case for asylum.  Emilio and his son, Oscar, fear for their lives if deported back to Mexico.  You may send them greetings at: Emilio Gutierrez Soto, #1780, ICE Processing Center, 8915 Montana Ave., El Paso, TX  79925.

     New Mexico Outdoor Economics Conference will include panel discussions about community programs around the country that promote nearby public lands and will include directors of outdoor recreation offices from multiple Western states as well as leaders in the outdoor recreation industry.

     Voice of the Voiceless 2018 solidarity dinner celebrating the 40th anniversary of Annunciation House in El Paso.  This event will again be held at the Santa Lucia Parish Hall starting at 6:00pm.  Tickets are $50 and may be ordered online at https://vov2108.brownpapertickets.com/.  Father Ismael “Melo” Moreno, S.J. of Honduras, has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Voice of the Voiceless Award and will be present to speak.  The theme is “If the World Knew . . . “ and Fr. Melo is the director of Radio Progreso, an independent station that gives voice to human rights activists, trade unionists, small farmers, and others with little access to the elite-controlled national media.  Annunciation House has provided temporary housing to migrant, homeless, and economically vulnerable peoples of the border.
