     Fundraiser Concert to benefit Doña Ana county food pantry, Casa de Peregrinos.  Nosotros performs “Feed the Body & Soul” from 6:00-8:30pm at the Dona Ana Arts Council, 1740 Calle de Mercado.  This will be a concert with Nosotros, other local musicians, and food trucks.  Tickets:  $10 in advance, $15 at the gate.

     Women in Leadership Salon will be held 6:00-8:00pm in the NMSU Health and Social Services Auditorium, 1335 International Mall.  The program will combine storytelling and conversation highlighting key narratives and issues from New Mexico’s women and girls, and include an armchair conversation between a local leader and Valerie Jarrett.  This is in the tradition of Shirley Chisholm’s admonition, “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring your own folding chair.”

     Listening Clinic returns the first Wednesday of each month, 4:30-6:00pm.  The Listening Clinic, at the Friends Meeting House, 622 N. Mesquite, is an opportunity to practice listening; to improve your listening skills, and be more fully listened to.  We will use methods from The Compassionate Listening Project, the Alternatives to Violence Project and Nonviolent communication.

 

League of Women Voters Candidate Forum with candidates for NM House of Representatives from Dona Ana County.  This forum will be 6:00-8:00pm in County Commission Chambers, 845 N. Motel Blvd.  All are welcome, bring your questions.

 

     The Roads Most Traveled: Causes and Consequences of Illegal Immigration with Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist Don Bartletti.  Like a visual anthropologist, Bartletti takes his audience through 38 years and 1200 miles of the border fence.  Program is 6:00-8:00pm at the Rio Grande Theatre, downtown mall.  Free.

 

     “Deep Time Insight into Earth’s Future” is the title of the second talk in the NMSU Climate Change Education Seminar Series.  Isabel Montanez, sedimentary geologist, University of California-Davis, will give the presentation in the Health and Social Services Annex auditorium, Room 101, at 7:00pm.

     Southern New Mexico Pride 2018 Fall Fest will be held from 5:00-10:00pm at the Plaza de Las Cruces.  The Pride March organized by PFLAG will begin at 4:30pm.  This celebration of pride will have a full schedule of events for the whole family, but needs volunteers to help with set-up, tear-down, vendor registration, kids area, entrance monitors, entertainment help, and overall help throughout the evening.  Email robawil@gmail.com to volunteer.

     “Why Would I Mispronounce My Own Name?” is a one-woman show written & performed by Irma Herrera at the Black Box Theatre, 430 N. Main St.  Two performances at 2:00pm and 7:00pm.  Irma says, “Your family has been in the USA for generations, but the correct pronunciation of your name leads some people to assume you are not a REAL American.”  This show won Best of the San Francisco Fringe Festival, 2017.

     New Ellis Island El Paso Regional Dialogue, the first in a series of community dialogues along the U.S.-Mexico border aimed at bringing together diverse stakeholders in conversation and around changing the frames, narratives, and subconscious public perception of the border – rooted in criminalization and dehumanization of migrants – that fuels the horrors of current policy and practice, will convene from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the El Paso Community Foundation Event Hall, 333 N.
