May 5 – Rod Sauter, U.S. Park Ranger – El Chamizal – Living Memorial
With US troops occupying Mexico City, the United States and Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. Mexico ceded over half of its territory to the United States, and the Rio Grande/Bravo became the new international boundary from El Paso del Norte to the Gulf of Mexico. However, the Rio Grande often shifted its course. For nearly a century, the United States and Mexico argued over a small tract of land called El Chamizal. In 1966 Chamizal National Memorial was authorized to commemorate the “harmonious” resolution to this long-standing
boundary dispute between El Paso and Ciudad Juárez. Take a virtual tour of this history and share in this national park’s meanings with Ranger Rodney Sauter.

May 12 – Chuck Harper – Title: The Quest for Human Meaning, One Poet’s
Pondering Description: Curiosity drives the quest. The most interesting questions are those that vex our minds, excite our imagination and dare us to make intuitive leaps. Did you notice the lexical connection of “quest” and “question”? Today’s presentation will revolve around selected poems from my 2018 book, PSALMS 151-300. It will be an interactive conversation among the poems, the audience and the poet.
