     “How Can We Have a Positive Impact On Climate Change” is the topic of this month’s Conversations With Democrats starting at 2:00pm at Holy Family Church, 702 Parker Rd.  The discussion leader of this critical issue is Dr. Madeline Hildebrandt who is a “Climate Reality” Leader following her training by Vice President Al Gore this year in Atlanta.  She is also a Planning & Zoning Commissioner for the City of Socorro and Adjunct Professor of History at Rowan College in New Jersey.  Conversations are a program of the Federation of Democratic Women of Dona Ana County.

     Moral Monday at the Borderlands with Repairers of the Breach and Rev. Dr. William J. Barber calls on faith leaders and all people of faith whose conscience compels them to join in calling on all congressional leaders to demand an end to child detention, a termination of the Remain in Mexico program, the preservation of human rights, equal protection under the law, and that all refugees seeking asylum be granted the due process to do so.  Mass meeting at First Christian Church, 901 Arizona Ave., El Paso 7:00pm.  There will then be an action of conscience Monday, July 29, 10:00am in El Paso (location to be announced at the Mass Meeting).

     AARP Rally on the Plaza to end prescription greed from 9:00am – noon will feature local city, state and U.S. officials.  In addition to speakers, a mariachi band will provide entertainment and a Bill of Rights to Affordable Prescription Drugs will be available to sign.  The event is free and open to everyone.

     “Iron Jawed Angels” screening at the Fountain Theater, 2469 Calle de Guadalupe, Mesilla at 1:00pm.  This special showing to celebrate the signing of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote is by donation only ($20 suggested) to benefit the Las Cruces Coalition for Reproductive Justice and the Mesilla Valley Film Society.  “Fiery American suffragette Alice Paul lights a fire under the older women’s leaders in Washington DC. President Wilson refuses to give all women the vote, but Paul is prepared to go to prison for her cause.”  See attached flyer.

     Party on the Plaza is also part of the celebration of A Day for Equality sponsored by the Las Cruces Coalition for Reproductive Justice (LCCRJ).  This FREE party begins at 7:00pm with music by the band, The Beaux Peep Show, starting at 8:00.  There will be music, dancing, food trucks, vendors, activism, community and fun.  Donations to La Casa Women’s Domestic Violence Shelter (shampoo/conditioner; plastic plates, cups and bowls; utensils; razors; deodorant; women’s sanitation products) are most welcome.  See attached flyer.

     ACLU Activist Training and Annual Meeting in Las Cruces.  Hear reports of work done over the past year, discuss what’s in store for the rest of 2019 through 2020, and participate in a training on how to take action locally.  This event is free and open to the public (you do not have to be an ACLU member to attend).  6:00-8:00pm at the Branigan Cultural Center, Schwartz Room, 501 N.
