Thanks — and WOW!
December 15, 2008
Dear Friends-
You made our Lomas del Poleo fundraising a smashing success. Our original goal was $1,200, a bare minimum for transporting lawyers and residents to the agrarian court for their hearing (finally!) in Chihuahua City next month. $1,295 was collected before last night’s fiesta and afterward we counted a total of $3,129 in contributions…and this morning another $75 came in, a total of $3,204. This means the transportation expenses are taken care of and there’s enough to pay the lawyers as well! You can’t be thanked enough for your extraordinary generosity especially during this economic downturn affecting so many of us as well as end-of-year and holiday expenses. What a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday spirit of giving as well as demonstrating our hopes for JUSTICE in the New Year by giving to help people whose situation makes ours seem very fortunate indeed.
Thank you Steve Klinger for your brilliant song explaining and narrating the plight of the “colonos” of Lomas del Poleo and for the very funny and sadly true Fox News song.
Thank you co-hosts April and Rebecca for all your help with the party and for terrific fundraising and collecting of supplies. What a huge “haul” you gave to our Juarez friends last night including two big new kerosene heaters, clothing, blankets, flashlights, et al. I will call you this week regarding the additional contributions and cashed checks and a 20 lb. bag of beans that I neglected to give you last night. It’s not over: additional contributions have been promised.
Thank you and bless you all for your kindness and generosity and, if you came, for making the fiesta — dare a host say this? — a memorably enjoyable PARTY!
With love and hope for the future,
Charlotte Lipson
